Save Fort Clark's Historic Stable!
Restore the Fort Clark Cavalry Stable — Protect Living History
Nestled in the heart of Kinney County, Texas, Fort Clark is home to one of the last remaining 19th-century cavalry stable— a vital relic of our nation’s military past. But this rare piece of history is at risk of being lost forever.
We’re a group of concerned residents, volunteers, and stable users working together to raise up to $15,000 to restore the Fort Clark Cavalry Stable— preserving their legacy for future generations!
Why We Need Your Help:
This historic stable, dating back to the 1870s, was once home to U.S. Army and Texas cavalry horses preparing for missions across the Southwest. Originally designed to house 40 horses each, with limestone end walls and individual guidons for each troop, these buildings are among the few remaining physical ties to Fort Clark’s role in Texas and U.S. military history.
Your support will help us:
- Full exterior painting to preserve and present the stable in their original historic look
- Application and purchase of a Texas Historical Commission plaque to officially recognize and protect the site
- Rebuild essential roof joists
- Restore 14 original horse stalls
- Preserve stonework and tack room framing
- Stop active decay and weather damage
A Living Museum
Located on the grounds of Fort Clark Springs, a community rich in natural beauty and frontier heritage, the stable is open to the public and serves as a window into life on the frontier. Local school groups, tourists, and history lovers regularly visit to experience this hands-on piece of the past.
Without urgent repairs, the remaining structure may fall into irreversible disrepair!
⏰️ The Clock is Ticking
If we act now and begin preservation work before further decay sets in, we can save this stable from loss— and instead restore them into a space that continues to educate, inspire, and honor the story of Fort Clark.
❤️ Every Dollar Counts
