Forrest Animal Sanctuary Bunny Surgery Funds
Boy oh boy, Forrest Animal Sanctuary is in for some expensive surgeries with some pretty extensive recoveries in the coming weeks. While we adore all of our bunny residents, they are considered “exotic” pets in PA and more of a specialty for vets to work on and therefore come with higher vet bills than a kitty or pup.
Bandit needs to get a small tumor removed from his anus. While not life threatening at this time, we are concerned that it could be more internal than we realize and it does have the potential to be cancerous, which we will check with a biopsy once it has been removed. He is currently scheduled for surgery on March 21st.
Sweet Morgan came to us with her three babies and their dad at the end of last year and we right away noticed she was having some issues with her eye. When we took her in for her vet check we learned that she was healing from an eye infection, however, the real issue is the cause of the infection. She has entropion, a condition where her eyelid turns inward, causing her eyelashes to rub and scratch against her eye. This means that she will suffer from chronic eye infections and discharge, not to mention the pain and general annoyance of that scratching 24/7, until we are able to get her eye surgery. I mean, could you imagine an eyelash rubbing on your eye ALL the time? We are waiting to schedule her surgery, since it is not life threatening, until we are able to fundraise a bit more and get Bandit through his procedure first, as Morgan’s surgery also has a high chance for complications and will require close monitoring.
Bandit’s surgery estimate: $585
Morgan’s surgery estimate: $544
Aftercare vet visits and medications: $400
TOTAL: $1,529
Expenses like this can really set back a small rescue like us, so every dollar makes a huge impact and you can rest assured that a bunny, guinea pig, and a couple of humans are doing a happy dance every time someone donates!
