Forest Hills Robotics League

We are team 8365 Gearmasters from Forest Hills, New York. We are a high school level robotics team participating in the FIRST Program. FIRST encourages teams to develop skills within STEM, as well as leadership, teamwork, business planning and community interaction. We will be 1 of 5 teams representing New York City at the World Championship in Detroit on April 24th to 27th.  We competed in 3 qualifier tournaments in order to advance to the World Championship. During these competitions, we have won various awards including Inspire Award for overall performance and Think Award for our engineering notebook.  

Throughout the season we performed many community outreach activities to spread the values of FIRST. This includes going to Nepal to teach STEM to 3rd grade students. We presented to international student from over a dozen countries at the UNIS-United Nations conference. We were also interviewed and demonstrated our robot live on PIX 11 local news, and held multiple mock tournaments for younger, local teams to help them gain experience.

Unlike most teams, we are a non-profit community-based team composed of members from various neighborhoods and schools. Because of that, we don’t have a source of funding nor are we supported or associated with a school. We would greatly appreciate any efforts to help make our experience at the World Championships possible.

We are the Hydro Mechanics, a community based robotics team from the Forest Hills Robotics League based in Queens NY.   We won 1st Place in the FIRST FLL NYC Championship tournament and received an invitation to compete against 100+ teams across the globe in the World Championship in Detroit on April 25th, 2018.

We are a team consisting of three girls and five boys, with members whose ages range from 10 - 14.  Our team is unqiue in that the 8 members come from different backgrounds, attend 8 different schools and live in various parts of Queens, NY. We met for the first time when the season began in September and convene once a week for two hours.   In the NYC tournament, our team won 2nd Place Robot Performance, 1st Place Gracious Professionalism, 1st Robot Strategy & Innovation, and 1st Place Overall Champions awards.

We estimated the cost to participate in the World Championship to be approximately $10,000.  The cost includes airfare, hotel, food, event registration and other fees.  As a community based team, our team must raise their own funds to cover the cost. 

We worked really hard this season and looking forward to this special opportunity to participant in the World Championship.  We would like to ask you to help fund us to get to Detroit!
