Feeding Unhoused Neighbors During Shelter in Place
Many of us concerned San Francisco residents are frustrated with the City's chaotic, slow, and inadequate support for unhoused neighbors living on our streets during this pandemic. If we expect unhoused neighbors living in tents to practice social distancing, we need to ensure they have access to food and don't have to wander far or congregate to find a meal.
Jamie Stark, Executive Director of Farming Hope, and I are kicking off this GoFundMe campaign to raise money to feed our City's unhoused neighbors while they try to shelter in place on the streets. Farming Hope has capacity to prepare and deliver up to 1,000 meals per day at a cost of $5 per meal.
Farming Hope has worked with service partners to map out the need for meals for the unhoused, as well as restaurants available to prepare the meals (farminghope.org/food-for-sf). The only missing piece is funding. Time is of the essence. We cannot - should not - turn our backs on some of our most vulnerable residents.
Any help you can provide would be awesome!
Thank you … Lisa Haut
To encourage donations during this stressful time of need, a measure in the federal coronavirus relief bill grants taxpayers an above-the-line deduction for up to $300 in charitable donations starting in 2020. Check with your tax advisor to see if you quality.
