Facing Foster Care in Alaska

As a runner, we're watching a summer of racing cancelled due to COVID-19.  So, in this time, runners around the world are doing somewhat crazy, unplanned solo races and backyard adventures. In that spirit, I wanted to use this time to do something a bit crazy, but for a good cause. 

Anchorage's Cheney Lake is in my backyard and forms a perfect one mile loop. Why not run solo in my backyard? I thought? Why not run as many laps around Cheney Lake as possible? Why not do it for charity? 

Many aspects or our community need help right now, but I have learned that the foster care community is hit particularly hard during this time of social distancing and quarantine. 

Talking to Facing Foster Care in Alaska, I learned that youth transitioning from foster care without a permanent family are more likely to experience homelessness, incarceration, and rely on public assistance. FFCA offers opportunities for youth to develop life skills necessary for adulthood, and resources for youth to meet their most basic needs, to ease their transition.

Want to join me in making a difference? On May 2, I will run as many laps around Cheney Lake as I can over 12 hours. Can I run 50 laps? We'll see. Can you pledge a dollar a lap?
