Historic Bank of Everglades Restoration
The Everglades Society for Historic Preservation is restoring the historic Bank of Everglades in Everglades City, Florida.
This building, listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, was the first bank in southwest Florida, established in 1927.
Enduring years of aging, hurricanes, and neglect, the Historic Society is endeavoring to restore this magnificent building back to its original glory and repurpose it to become the Everglades City and local area Visitor's Center as well as the home for the Everglades Society for Historic Preservation.
The amenities will include a volunteer-run information center for local businesses and activities; the local resource for Everglades City's designation as a Florida Trail Town; a gallery and gift shop with works by local artists; public meeting space, and much more!
Your contribution will support the costs of restoring the original Dade County Pine hardwood flooring and wainscoting and repurposing the original vault to become a cozy movie theater displaying content about the Everglades' unique ecosystem.
Groundbreaking has already happened and construction is underway. The funds granted for the project by H.U.D. may be in jeopardy or delayed indefinitely due to current cost-saving efforts by the Federal Government, so the project desperately needs operating capital to ensure continuity of the project!
