To help ensure that we can continue to serve our community, we have launched the "Evans 500" campaign.

We are seeking 500 individuals who are willing to donate $300 or more to our cause.

Additionally, we are honoring the legacy of our founder, Mr. Roosevelt Evans, by inviting people to join the "1965 Club" with a donation of $65. Of course, we are grateful for any amount that you can contribute, as every dollar counts.

In 1965, Mr. Roosevelt "Ross" Evans opened his supermarket in Palm Bay on the corner of Randolph and Florida Streets. The market was a neighborhood pillar that provided a safe, attractive place to buy healthy food and sundry items.

After his death, blight and crime set in. In 2007, a group of neighborhood leaders and organizations began facilitating discussions to turn the market into a community asset again, and in 2011 Evans Center Inc. became a non-profit organization. Evans Center leaders engaged the community through a survey, conversations, and collective participation. In 2012, Palm Bay demolished the old market, making way for a new vision for Evans Center: a vision that would honor the past and serve present community needs. On March 9, 2019, Evans Center unveiled its community healthy living model. The facility is a critical component in stabilizing the community and rebuilding the vision of Mr. Evans for a strong, prosperous and healthy community.

Evans Center recently celebrated its 4th anniversary on March 4th, 2023 and has become a vital hub for numerous programs and services in the community. Our market has been bringing fresh foods and a delicious hot food deli to the neighborhood, serving as a beacon of hope and nourishment for many of our neighbors.

However, we are currently facing significant financial struggles and are at risk of having to close permanently. This would be a devastating loss for our community and the rich history created by Mr. Roosevelt Evans since the 1960s when he opened the original Evans Market.
