Between an executive order indefinitely suspending USRAP and the State Department’s PRM cancelling all contracts with resettlement agencies, Resettlement Agencies and the communities they serve are facing grave ramifications. These policy changes are unpredictable and constant, creating an air of uncertainty in our offices of how long we’ll be able to provide essential resettlement services to our current and future clients.

Now more than ever, we need community support to continue in our mission of providing comprehensive resettlement and social services to help refugees in their path of reaching self-sufficiency in the United States. This fundraiser serves to provide secure funding for emergency situations, such as eviction notices, food-insecurity, baby supplies, or hygiene essentials as we face consistent budget cuts and program termination.

In lieu of our usual Thanksgiving event, the local African Community Center DC Metro branch of ECDC is raising funds to help our newly arrived Afghan allies. All of the proceeds from this charity will go directly to Afghan families who are rebuilding their lives in Northern Virginia and Maryland. This money will help families to secure housing, buy food and other essentials, and access urgent medical care.

Today, we serve refugees and immigrants from all cultural backgrounds by providing case management, employment services, health services and victim advocacy. ECDC works in collaboration with its affiliate network of Ethnic Community Based Organizations (ECBOS) to help communities achieve successful integration.
