Anastasio Mural Project - Show Your Support!
ANASTASIO MURAL PROJECT IN CHICANO PARK:
This mural project is in memory of Anastasio Hernandez Rojas who was brutally beaten by Border Agents on May 28, 2010 and who died three days later. While handcuffed and on the ground, he was beaten, kicked, and tasered by more than 12 border agents while he pleaded for mercy in plain sight of onlookers. This mural also tells the story of the abuse of migrants seeking better life including the brutal imprisonment, neglect, abuse of innocent children. The mural project is an act of collective healing were justice has been allusive for the individuals, their families, and their communities that confront this inhumanity on the daily basis.
Led by master muralist Victor Ochoa, local community artists will paint on the 50- foot tall pillars that hold up the Coronado Bridge. And, your donation will help fund the cost of painting the mural including compensating the artists.
*Team of artists: Mario Chacon, Gloria Favela- Rocha, Graham Hajosy, Eduardo Parra, and Cindy Rocha, with additional artists scheduled to participate including Irma Patricia Aguayo, Eric “Sholove” De La Rosa, Victor “Cheeks” Cordero, Selena Idioma, Shayne Oseguera, Xochitl Flores and German Corrales as well as others.*
