Field Work Alert: Help "Witch Hunt Podcast" Attend the 2025 Magic & Witchcraft Conference! at York University
The ultimate opportunity to expand our globally-recognized documentation of witchcraft accusations is here—and we need your help to make it happen.
This June, York University will host the 2025 Magic & Witchcraft Conference, a three-day gathering exploring "What is a Witch?"—a question at the heart of our mission. As hosts of "The Thing About Salem" and "Witch Hunt" podcasts, we, Sarah Jack and Josh Hutchinson, have dedicated ourselves to synthesizing scholarly perspectives on witchcraft accusations so listeners worldwide grow their understanding of witch trials and the valuable lessons they teach us about humanity.
Our on-the-ground fieldwork, especially at specialized conferences like York, provides irreplaceable opportunities to learn and research that become the backbone of our website archives and podcast episodes. While we volunteer countless hours creating content, the fieldwork component—requiring travel, accommodation, and recording equipment—is where we need financial support most.
Our attendance at the 2024 conference transformed our work, allowing us to:
Build crucial academic connections that brought fresh expert voices to our platform
Document diverse global perspectives on witchcraft accusations
Deepen our understanding of these complex social histories
The 2025 conference represents a rare opportunity to continue this vital project. While media coverage often sensationalizes witch hunts, our nonprofit End Witch Hunts provides the only dedicated audio and video platform regularly adding new, scholarly content on these complex historical and contemporary narratives.
