Elixir for Cmt

Mishika was always full of life—curious, joyful, and constantly on the move. As a little girl, she loved to dance barefoot on the grass, climb monkey bars, and race her friends on the playground. But as she grew, something began to change. She started tripping more often. Her feet seemed to turn in ways they hadn’t before, and walking became harder. At first, it was frustrating. Then, it became frightening.

After a long string of doctor’s visits, tests, and waiting, our family finally got a diagnosis: Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, or CMT. It was something none of us had heard of—a rare genetic condition that affects the peripheral nerves, weakening the muscles and dulling sensation, especially in the hands and feet. For Mishika, it meant her legs didn’t work the way they used to. It meant braces, physical therapy, and constant adjustments to her daily life.

But if CMT tried to slow Mishika down, it underestimated her spirit. She learned to adjust, to push forward, and to find new ways to shine. Still, we saw her struggle—not just physically, but emotionally. She felt isolated, misunderstood, and tired of hearing “there’s no cure.” That’s when we realized that something needed to change—not just for Mishika, but for the thousands of others living with CMT.

That’s why we started Elixir for CMT.

Elixir for CMT is a nonprofit created with one goal: to bring hope, awareness, and funding to the fight against Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Through fundraising events, outreach, and partnerships with researchers, Elixir for CMT supports the search for better treatments—and someday, a cure. It also works to build a community so people like Mishika know they’re not alone.

For Mishika, Elixir for CMT is more than just an organization. It’s a promise: that her pain has purpose, that her story can inspire change, and that a better future is within reach.

She’s no longer just a girl with a diagnosis—she’s a symbol of strength, and the heartbeat of a movement.
