Help Provide Medical Care for Asian Elephants
Hollis Burbank-Hammarlund, Founder/Director of Work for Wild Life International, is raising funds to save the lives of endangered Asian elephants in Asia. Hollis has a longstanding working relationship with the two organizations she's supporting via this campaign--they are good people doing great work under difficult circumstances.
Funds raised will specifically support these two international groups:
1. WildMED Mobile Emergency Wildlife Veterinary Unit (Laos) - The Elephant Conservation Center 's WildMED initiative in Laos is capable of deploying to any location within 24 hours and is equipped with two mobile wildlife ambulances. Thanks to many global donors (like you), WildMED’s veterinarians, vet techs, and biologists are able to deliver immediate medical care to elephants and other wildlife in the field--when and where they need it most! This rapid response capability is crucial to ensuring that sick and injured wildlife receive timely and appropriate treatment. Click here for WildMED's Progress Report

2. Elephant Health Camps (Clinics) in Asia. Dr. Susan Mikota (DVM) of Elephant Care International (ECI) collaborates with other veterinarians and groups to provide free elephant health camps in Asia. Click here to read more.
These health camps bring essential veterinary care to elephants living under human care (e.g., in sanctuaries, camps, and temples, etc.).
In a perfect world, elephants would not live in captivity and their wellbeing would not depend on veterinarians. But they do and it does...and ECI delivers crucial preventive care when it matters.
Elephants receive thorough physical examinations and foot work. Whenever possible, blood is collected to check routine health parameters. De-worming medications are given and any medical problems are treated. Vitamins and other supplements are dispensed as needed. ECI Elephant Health Camps also provide hands-on, educational training for veterinary students living and working in Asia, developing in-country capacity to treat both captive and wild elephants. Dr. Mikota provides her services pro bono.
