Overview of Education Programs and Services
Education on the Corner is a women and minority-owned non-profit organization. It
was founded in 2023 with Rhonda Cotton,Th.D, Ph.D., at the helm. Dr. Cotton
brings a wealth of experience spanning higher education, business, pre-college
education, and technology to the organization. This diverse background is
instrumental in our mission.
Our mission is to provide valuable no-cost educational programs and community
support services, including in-person and remote tutoring in STEM subjects,
academic guidance, General Education Development (GED) support, High School
Equivalency Diploma (HSED), job readiness training, research and writing
assistance, financial literacy and computer literacy classes, specialized workshops,
and mentoring support for both youth and adults facing mental health challenges.
On December 19, 2023, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, (DPI)
approved Education on the Corner’s application for an HSED Program. This option
allows students to be awarded with the traditional high school diploma. Also, the
success of the HSED Program allows individuals to acquire competencies which
include employability skills, acceptance into college, and a career path.
Mentoring plays a crucial role in our organization. We provide a holistic approach to
youth engagement, encompassing drop-off and pick-up services, offering sports
activities, nutritious meals, homework help, collaborating closely with parents, and
actively liaising with schools to monitor attendance, behavior, academic progress,
and the overall well-being of our youth participants.
Additionally, through Education on the Corner, free monthly supportive services are
provided to residents, who live in Guest House Milwaukee Homeless Shelter, such as
Mental Health/Life Skill’s Classes: i.e., Social Support, Problem-Solving, and Anger
