Eastbayshore Eruv Corporation (The Berkeley Eruv)

The Eastbayshore Eruv Corporation exists to build and maintain an Eruv in Berkeley and Albany, California, in order to improve the quality of religious and spiritual life of members of the Jewish community in the local area. An Eruv in Jewish law establishes a symbolic “community boundary” within which observant Jews are permitted to carry on the Sabbath, which they could not do without an Eruv. Examples of activities which can performed on the Sabbath only if an Eruv is in place are wheeling infant strollers to synagogues or to the homes of neighbors on the Sabbath. Members of the community who live outside the Eruv also benefit because an Eruv is an asset for retaining the best spiritual leadership.
