Revive the Fabulous 7 Motel Sign
At the side of the I-8 Freeway in El Cajon, California stands the remnants of a time-gone-by. A time when families would take long summer road trips, when the hotels at the side of the road invited guests with their beautiful and fanciful neon signs, when times were simpler.
The Fabulous 7 Motel is long gone, but its mid-century modern neon sign remains.
Time has not been kind to the sign- it is in need of structural, paint, electrical work and most importantly new neon tubes and gas.
But, with your help, its gleaming tubes will once again greet drivers as they pass welcoming all to a brighter future.
The sign will be removed, restored, and REINSTALLED exactly as it was, on the grounds of the East Country Transitional Living Center . The structural, metalwork and paint will be done by the Restoration Facility at the San Diego Air & Space Museum. The electrical and neon tubes will be restored by Neon Jungle of El Cajon.
With your support, one of the last roadside neon signs in Southern California will not only be saved from fading into history, but will be returned to its proud place of honor at the side of the California highway, gleaming through the night welcoming drivers for years to come.
