Hay Barn for a Horse Sanctuary
Dust Devil Ranch Sanctuary for Horses, located in Southern Utah, is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to prevent cruelty to animals through rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and/or retirement of abused or starving horses.
The goal of this special campaign is to raise funds to build a much-needed hay barn. Currently, the only method we have to protect our hay is to place it on wooden pallets and cover it with a tarp. The climate in Cedar City, Utah brings rain, snow and high-winds throughout the winter months, and high heat and wind in summer. Proper protection from the elements is needed. Because of the severe weather, there have been occasions of late when we lost most of our hay.
The cost to build this hay barn is $25,000. Recent grants totaling $17,500 have already been received, leaving only $7,500 to meet our goal. A plan is in place to have this built by late fall, before the onslaught of winter. We’re so close!

The horses and other animals at Dust Devil Ranch have some extraordinary stories and journeys. On any given day, there is a population of 30 to 40 horses that have come to us through animal control and other humane agencies from situations of abuse and neglect.
It’s common for them to require 3–6 months of critical care from the time they arrive, and some may also have special requirements. Their time at the Sanctuary helps them heal and regain their confidence and spirit.
A concerted effort between our horse rescue, its volunteers and the generous help from our veterinarians, trainers and farriers helps these horses recover their health, and become useful again in life.
