NEA Replacement Funds for Dumbo's Arts Institutions
You've most likely seen in your news feed organizations speaking about the funds rescinded from the National Endowment for the Arts. Dumbo's beloved arts institutions -- Smack Mellon , AIR Gallery and Photoville --have also been impacted, together losing more than $100,000 in federal support this year.
Together, these organizations have served Dumbo for decades, supporting hundreds of artists, presenting innovative exhibitions, and creating spaces for community engagement and cultural exchange.
Team Dumbo and Art in Dumbo are uniting to raise funds for these organizations as they face a challenging fiscal year after this significant loss.

Founded in Dumbo in 1995, Smack Mellon’s mission is to nurture and support emerging, under-recognized mid-career, and women artists in the creation and exhibition of new work by providing exhibition opportunities, studio workspace, and access to equipment and technical assistance for the realization of ambitious projects.
Founded in 1972 and in Dumbo since 2008, A.I.R. Gallery is a permanent, artist-run exhibition space that supports an open exchange of ideas and risk-taking by women artists in order to provide support and visibility.
Founded in Dumbo in 2011, Photoville is New York City’s free premier photography destination. Each year brings a special and outstanding group of artists and programming partners to curate and present free outdoor photo exhibitions across all five boroughs of NYC. With stories highlighting hope, joy, and compassion, while honoring experiences of adversity and heartbreak, Photoville aims to elevate the power of visual storytelling by fostering empathy and understanding within our communities.
