Neglected Senior Dogs Medical Assistance
On Saturday, October 16th, six small dogs were surrendered to the Driftless Humane Society in small pet carriers that reeked of urine and feces. The dogs were all unaltered, senior dogs that are believed to have lived their life without medical care, grooming, and access to the outside. Two of the dogs are a Chinese Crested male and female.
The other four dogs are poodle or terrier mixes that were so matted that it took over 12 hours to shave off the mats that went down to the skin. The dogs have lost pounds of weight from the matted fur and became half the size when finished.

The matted fur was caked with feces.
There were open lesions and wounds on some of the dogs and all of them have extensive tooth decay that will require dental surgery and extraction.
Some of the dogs were walking on nails that were never trimmed and curled back on themselves embedding in the flesh of the front leg.
The Driftless Humane Society is seeking help to cover the costs to spay/neuter, run bloodwork tests to identify underlying issues, perform dental surgery and extraction, vaccinate, and continue to care for all six dogs until they find their forever homes. One of the dogs also needed mammary gland tumors removed.
They are sweet dogs and though frightened when they arrived, have started to come out of their shell.
You can make a difference by donating today to Driftless Humane Society. We are a no-kill animal shelter in Viroqua, WI that survives solely on donations.
