Audrey's Fundraiser for GPAS
Hi friends and family,
In the honor of my Bat Mitzvah, I have decide to raise money for the Greek Peak Adaptive Snowsports (GPAS), located in Virgil, New York. GPAS was originally founded in 1974 to provide people with mental and physical disabilities a chance to participate in snowsports in a fun, friendly, and supportive environment.
GPAS helps each client excel at a sport they have fun doing, while learning the fundamentals of skiing, snowboarding, bi-skiing, and mono-skiing. This Winter I began volunteering at GPAS, giving me the opportunity to work with clients of all ages and disabilities, including a blind skier that grew up with my Mom. I have made so many new friends that all have amazing personalities and share a common goal of becoming great skiers. But it was working with my friend, Locklan (pictured above; I am on the right), who was learning to use a bi-ski, that gave me the idea to help GPAS out in a different way.
GPAS cares about each of their client and their safety. So every five years they replace their equipment to ensure they are in working order. Therefore, I have decided to help GPAS raise enough money to purchase a new junior bi-ski. Here is a picture of one from the Aspen Time of one in action. Bi-skis are considered essential equipment for adaptive ski programs to train children whose disability prevents them from supporting their weight on skis.
GPAS is an amazing program for any age, or disability. The volunteers work hard to help each of their clients succeed, in their own way, and are always looking for ways to challenge them to learn new skills. Please help GPAS do what they do best, help those with disabilities have fun and learn how to do something most people take for granted.
Thank you for supporting this amazing program and creating opportunity's for volunteers like myself to help more people.
Love,
Audrey
