About Development Engineering Research Institute (Schools3/DERI)

The SCHOOLS3 program of DERI is committed to support the building of badly needed, formal, rural schools in Africa & Central America. Mali is one of the poorest countries in the world, their per capita GNP is US$250 (U S per capita GNP is US$29,340). Their educational statistics are nearly the poorest in the world. The illiteracy rate is greater than 64%; boys can expect 2 years of schooling; girls 1 year; only 28% of all primary school aged children have a school to go to. In Honduras the per capita GNP is US$730, the illiteracy rate is 30%. Although these statistics are far better than those in Mali, Honduras is still one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. The need is great to improve schools, add classrooms, and build secondary schools. DERI is a non-profit organization without religious, political, or governmental affiliation that will provide assistance where there is the need without consideration for geographic location or form of governance.
