Detroit Abloom

Detroit Abloom is kicking off 2021 with an exciting new project! “Kids Abloom” - a Children’s Discovery Garden! The fenced in garden will be roughly 1,600 square feet, located in the middle of our farm, across from the pavilion and butterfly nursery. We’ll be working with volunteers, young and old, to build the garden and have a good time. Well-designed gardens can be magical and make us feel happy and inspired! 
 
Our vision is to help children of all ages and abilities build an appreciation for plants and animals through play and exploration. Features of the garden will engage all five senses-- from cozy spaces such as bean covered tepees and tunnel structures, to places of discovery and play including a music wall, butterfly garden, puppet theater, worm farm and more! 

As the garden comes to life, we also plan to offer children’s activities and classes. There will be many ways to get involved! To help us get started please donate today! Every donation will help further our mission of supporting families with experiences and adventures in nature. Detroit Abloom is a project under the nonprofit, The Garden Detroit, who's mission is to use cut flower farming as a way to transform vacant land in Detroit into beautiful and productive landscapes.

Thanks to our last GoFundMe campaign, we were able to raise enough money to finish the roof for our pavilion. We are still in awe of the support surrounding this project and we cannot thank you enough! Already, we are using the pavilion to give classes and host meetings. We can't wait for all the future opportunities to host events, weddings, workshops and community meetings. We wan't this to be a space for everyone to enjoy!

Now, to finish the pavilion, we need to build a wood deck and to install electricity. Please help us in any way you can to finish this project. We would love to have it finished in time for our Dahlia Festival on September 30th, so that we can celebrate it's completion together! We need $6,500 to buy the wood decking and an underlayment of joists. To save money, we will be working on it ourselves with help of friends and volunteers.

And for the electrical, we need to pull a permit and to pay a contractor at least $1,000 to install outlets and floodlights so we can have classes and outdoor concerts in the evening.
