A fundraising campaign led by a 9 year old girl with a big heart
The story of a little girl who lost a lot but gained strength through unconditional love.
7 months ago we suffered a terrible and devastating loss, one so profound that it changed the fabric of our family. Our daughter Mya was affected the most, as the two people we lost were closest to her heart.
The loss of that unconditional love was a great burden to bear, and one no child should ever experience.
Her world was turned upside down.
Although she suffered in silence, her pain radiated in ways she herself was not fully aware of. As her parents, we felt powerless. All the therapy, processing, and family support did not seem to quench her burning pain.
Then something magical happened. Her sense of loss started to fill with a deep love for animals.
Beginning with a litter of 5 Dalmatian puppies, Mya developed a deep love of dogs. The unconditional love from the small animals, experiencing the magic of life and the comedy of puppies, slowly cooled the burning pains.
Our neighbor was kind to have Mya spend as much time as she wanted with the little guys, watch them grow and absorb their love. We noticed the dark clouds slowly thinning and small instances of smiles radiating through.
Mya developed a sense of duty. One she's channeling to help raise funds for the Dakin Humane Society, a local animal shelter.
