It's been almost a year since my brother Joe lost his beloved wife, Rachel, to cervical cancer. The tragedy of losing Rachel is difficult to process, Rachel had been part of Joe’s and The Enright family's lives for over 20 years. Our family, Rachel’s family and her friends are devastated and heartbroken.

Cervical cancer is the 4th largest killer of women world-wide. In the US alone nearly 12.000 new cases and 4,000 deaths occur annually. Each year the World Health Organization (WHO) reports over 600,000 new cases and over 340,000 women die from the disease.

The vast majority of these deaths can be prevented by simple tests and proven vaccinations. If detected early, Cervical cancer can be effectively stopped.

My brother Joe and I will be travelling to Outer Mongolia to run a 100-mile ultra marathon across a frozen lake and raise funds for this critical women's health campaign. We are running for a cause, running for a cure, and running for those who can't.

Cervical cancer is nearly 100% preventable and highly curable if detected and treated early. Yet, every 2 minutes, cervical cancer claims another woman’s life.

Few diseases demonstrate global inequities like cervical cancer. In 2020, an estimated 342,000 women lost their lives to this preventable disease, and an estimated 570,000 new cases were reported. An astounding 90% of deaths from cervical cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries affecting the world’s most vulnerable women. Women who are dying a painful and undignified death simply because they lack access to basic preventative care.

Without urgent and wide-scale intervention, deaths from cervical cancer are predicted to increase by more than 30% by 2040. The World Health Organization is calling on the global community to eliminate cervical cancer by focusing our resources and efforts on prevention. Now is the time to deploy innovative, effective, and scalable solutions to make cervical cancer a disease of the past.

CureCervicalCancer’s innovative and holistic model brings the most effective tools for identifying and treating cervical cancer to women in the hardest-to-reach places with no other access to care. Women may never have the opportunity to visit a healthcare facility that offers screening and treatment, so we bring screening and treatment to them.

Radiation oncologist Dr. Patricia Gordon left her Beverly Hills practice to bring life-saving medical care to women in some of the most remote regions across the globe. Cervical cancer is almost 100% preventable, but is killing hundreds of thousands of women in resource-poor countries where healthcare is not accessible. Using the “See and Treat” method, a simple and fast way to screen and treat precervical cancer, Gordon and her nonprofit CureCervicalCancer have screened more than 150,000 women and treated more than 8,600. She has established 106 sustainable clinics and trained nearly 700 nurses all over the world. Often, Gordon and her team bring in equipment and supplies and leave trained nurses with a “clinic in a suitcase” to take to remote areas to reach more women.
