Help Send Our Para Doubles to Youth Nationals!

Coventry Lake Community Rowing is proud to announce that we have two incredible Para Double teams heading to the USRowing Youth Nationals in Sarasota, Florida—and we need your help to get them there!

This is a huge milestone for our athletes, and your support will help cover travel, lodging, equipment transportation, and regatta fees to make it all possible.

Meet Our Boats:

‍♀️ Boat 1: Sobie & John

Sobie and John are returning to Youth Nationals to defend their championship title, this time in a newly introduced Para event. And, they will be rowing our new Hudson 2x awarded by The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving! Sobie is almost 100% sight-impaired and has shown remarkable resilience in the boat while John takes the lead guiding her down the course. Together, they’ve trained with focus and heart—and they’re ready to raise the bar once again!

‍♂️ Boat 2: Scout & Megumi

This is a special debut for Scout and Megumi, who are competing at Youth Nationals for the very first time. Scout is 100% sight-impaired, and together with Megumi, they’ve formed a powerful bond built on trust, coordination, and perseverance. They represent the best of what Para rowing is all about.

Why This Matters:

Para rowing creates space for athletes with physical and visual impairments to thrive in a challenging, team-driven sport. These athletes aren’t just showing up—they’re excelling, inspiring others, and proving what’s possible with the right support.

With your help, we can send Megumi, Scout, John, and Sobie to Sarasota to represent Coventry Lake Community Rowing—and the broader Para community—on the national stage.

We are thrilled to share some exciting news! John and Sobie, representing Coventry Lake Community Rowing (CLCR), have qualified to compete at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, FL. After securing gold at the USRowing Northeast Youth Championships, they are ready to take on the national stage in the Mixed Youth PR3 2x event. But they need your help to get there!

The Journey: While our boat has a ride to Florida, John and Sobie need your support to cover the costs of their travel and participation in the championship. Your contributions will help them realize their dream of competing at this prestigious event and showcase their incredible talent and dedication.

Meet Sobie: Sobie, at just 15 years old, is a novice rower with less than a year of experience, but her enthusiasm and determination are unmatched. Despite her visual impairment, which classifies her as legally blind, Sobie excels by using her limited vision and exceptional hearing to master her rowing skills. Her fierce competitiveness and passion for the sport make her a standout athlete who is eager to race at the highest level.

Meet John: John, who turned 16 this month, is a first year varsity rower who also serves as a coxswain when needed. He is committed to perfecting his rowing technique and understanding the science behind the sport. John's dedication extends to his teammates, as he shows patience and encouragement, and matched with Sobie's drive, they are a great team to succeed together at Nationals.

How You Can Help: We are reaching out to ask for your generous support to help cover the expenses for John and Sobie’s trip to Sarasota. Your donations will go towards travel, accommodation, and competition fees, ensuring that these talented young rowers and their support team (parents & coaches) have the opportunity to compete and shine at the national level.
