“I am excited to announce our intentions to renovate and remodel the R. John Buuck Field House lobby. Although located on the backside of Concordia’s campus, this space serves as the front door for a significant number of our CUW students, alumni, community members, and visitors. The lobby needs a functional and aesthetic face-lift, which this project will accomplish. The Concordia Fund at Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) is an unrestricted-giving initiative created to bridge operating budget gaps, support day-to-day campus operations, provide scholarship assistance, and enhance overall student experiences without raising tuition burdens.

Purpose and Impact

• Bridge Operational Gaps: Tuition costs only cover a fraction of the actual expense required to educate each student, making unrestricted gifts to the fund a primary operational necessity.

• Immediate Support: Funds address urgent campus needs, student financial aid, and routine educational costs before the fiscal year concludes on June 30.

• Contributor Sources: Contributions are driven primarily by alumni, parents, and friends of the university.

Concordia Cornerstone Society

• Membership Criterion: Donors who contribute $1,000 or more to the Concordia Fund within a single fiscal year (July through June) will become a member of the Concordia Cornerstone Society.

• Member Benefits: Includes specialized communications, dedicated event access, and formal recognition.

When U.S. Army veteran and Concordia Student Veteran came home from service, she carried more than a backpack full of memories — she had the unseen weight of war. Sleepless nights, anxiety in public, and the struggle to feel “normal” again

became part of daily life.

Then came Trixie — a gentle, loyal therapy dog trained through the Concordia University Wisconsin Veteran Resource Center (VRC). With Trixie by her side, she began to smile again. She found the courage to attend class, connect with others, and rediscover peace.

That’s the power of a therapy dog.

At the CUW Veteran Resource Center, we’re committed to helping our student veterans heal — body, mind, and spirit. Our therapy dog program brings comfort, companionship, and hope to those who’ve served our nation with honor. But each dog requires specialized training, veterinary care, and ongoing support — costs that can only be met through the generosity of donors like you.

Greetings from the Y4Life team “CUW Students for Life” at Concordia University, Wisconsin!

Our team has the great privilege of being Gospel-motivated voices for life on our campus. We help support and educate our peers on life issues that span life from fertilization to forever.

This coming January, 33 CUW students have the opportunity to attend Y4Life Conference in Washington, D.C. This is a free conference sponsored by the youth branch of Lutherans For Life. During this conference we will:

Our Growing Together curriculum is designed to sharpen your communication/mentoring skills in listening, critical thinking, searching Scripture, and creating a mentoring plan. Over the past year, we have facilitated workshops all over the country in various congregation and school settings. The next step is to provide our mentor and workshop facilitator training online so that women interested may access it easily.

To do so, WLI is updating its website platform to allow training videos, blogs, and better access to resources. In addition to the website, the money will help support our email and event management system, branding, online mentoring training, and continual oversight.

CUW Falcon Peer Support Network (FPSN) promotes student well-being and empowers Concordia University students to create a resilient community by supporting each other’s identity, mental health and well-being, and day-to-day lives through weekly peer facilitating groups, and community-building events. This initiative was launched by a CUW JED mental health committee and is led by student directors and leaders under the supervision of Student Wellness. Weekly Peer Groups and bi-weekly Kick-Back Fridays will officially launch in February 2023!

The Polar Plunge will not only raise funds for FPSN activities but will raise awareness of Mental Health Resources on campus and recruit Falcon Peer Support Network members! The Instagram handle is: #cuwfsn

The Concordia University Ann Arbor music department is heading out on its annual tour from January 4 through 13, 2023. Our students will be sharing music with local congregations and high schools in Arizona, Nevada, and southern California. The trip will include students from each of our major ensembles: band, orchestra, and choir. The tour is not only an opportunity for our students to share the Gospel through the gift of music and the hard work they have been doing in their music classes – it is also a highlight of their Concordia experience in which they will deepen friendships and form memories of their time at CUAA that will last a lifetime.

Because of inflation and other rising costs associated with travel, our expenses are higher than they have been the past few years. We have asked our students to help raise funds to cover the costs of the trip. Each student engaged in crowdfunding is working to raise $500, or 25% of the total tour cost. The funds you donate can be earmarked for the specific student you sponsor. Your generosity in supporting this endeavor will ensure that all of CUAA's music students have a fantastic experience with this year’s tour.

What Is a Scholarship Endowment?

A scholarship endowment is a lasting gift that supports Concordia University Wisconsin students year-after-year. Instead of being used all at once, the gift is invested, and a portion of the earnings are used annually for scholarships. Because the principal is preserved and invested, the scholarship can continue helping students far into the future. Funding an endowment serves as a gift given today that continues blessing students, families, the Church, and the world for generations.

Why Scholarship Endowments Matter

For many students, college costs can feel overwhelming. A scholarship provides the encouragement and support needed to move forward in faith. Endowed scholarships help remove financial barriers so students can pursue their calling.

Establishing a Legacy

Scholarships Endowments are named by the donor, which the student recipient sees on their financial aid report. Many CUW donors have funded endowments to:

• Honor the memory of a deceased loved one (i.e. The Jane Smith Memorial Churchwork Scholarship Endowment)

• Invest in family values (i.e. The Smith Family Business Scholarship Endowment)

One day, you may be alive because of the care you receive. That moment begins long before a hospital room or clinic visit. It begins where nurses are formed. The Nursing Wing Addition at Concordia University Wisconsin represents a long-term commitment to preparing nurses with the skills, judgment and compassion required for work that is not just a profession, but a calling lived out in service to others.

The project includes approximately 26,000 square feet of new construction along with 11,650 square feet of renovated space, creating a state-of-the-art environment designed for hands-on learning, collaboration, and clinical preparation.

Groundbreaking will occur in spring, and construction is expected to continue through summer 2027, with the space anticipated to be ready for use for the Fall 2027 semester. For more than four decades, Concordia has prepared nurses to serve patients, families, and healthcare systems with excellence and integrity. Graduates of the School of Nursing are at work across hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and community settings, meeting real needs every day.

The Nursing Wing Addition builds on that legacy. It reflects a visible investment in the health of our communities and the people who will care for them, now and in the years ahead.

While our students demonstrate remarkable talent and dedication, our current facilities no longer match the caliber of their work or the depth of their calling. When we provide environments worthy of their calling, we communicate that their work matters—that their artistry is an act of worship and their creativity a gift entrusted to them by God. Through your generosity, we can create a unified center for the arts—a vibrant hub where students refine their craft while deepening their faith.

This center will ensure that future generations of Christian artists receive the formation they need, rather than gravitating toward institutions that do not integrate faith with excellence. It will enrich the lives of those who enter the arts as a vocation, as well as those who simply participate in the arts while at Concordia. It will also serve to bless our community with arts that live out our mission as a Lutheran university.
