Our Community Passageways Wedding Fund
For our wedding, we ask that you consider donating to one of our favorite local nonprofits, Community Passageways. Thank you so much!

As many of you know, Sierra worked with people exiting jail and prison for several years and was deeply disturbed by the inner workings of the criminal legal system. In the words of Angela Davis, "Prisons do not disappear social problems; they disappear human beings." Community Passageways offers young people in the King County area a healing, community-based alternative to incarceration.

We have personally interacted with Community Passageways staff and trust they will make your donations go a long way. Donations to Community Passageways are tax deductible through GoFundMe. You'll receive a receipt from PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF), a 501c3.

Community Passageways (CP) is a Seattle based nonprofit founded in 2017 with a vision for zero youth incarceration. As a felony diversion and prevention program, CP is leading the way in reimagining and actively creating an alternative to today’s criminal legal system.

Over the last 20 years in Seattle, we have seen a sharp decline in the number of young people in detention. But even as the overall number decreased, our current juvenile legal system has a disproportionately harmful impact on youth of color, particularly black youth. While only 10% of King County’s 2 million residents are black, they now make up almost half of the detention population on any given day, and more than half of felony offenses.

We have a four-pronged approach to community justice:

Prevention: Keep youth on a good path. Show them new paths.

Diversion: Keep people out of the prison system and in community.

Support: Support people already in the prison system.

Reintegrate: Ensure a smooth, successful integration into the community.

Our community-centered and evidence-based model provides an alternative to the current criminal legal system. We collaborate with families, schools, the court system, correctional center staff, religious institutions, policy makers, and community members to support adolescent youth of color. We provide youth mentors and access to programs focused on personal healing, identity development, and leadership building.

Pagliacci-Community Passageways Fundraiser
For more than 3 years, Pagliacci and Community Passageways have been partners with the goal of shattering the school-to-prison pipeline and empowering community to heal community. We have created jobs for Community Passageways youth and acted as mentors. Last year, we decided we wanted to do more. We created a fundraiser, hoping to raise $25,000 for Community Passageways - we smashed this goal. There was an outpouring of support from employees, vendors, peers and friends. This year, in honor of Juneteenth, we are launching another round. Please join us in donating. All gifts up to $75,000 will be matched. That's $150,000 for Community Passageways to hire mentors and hold events to further its goals. Thank you to our friends at DeLaurenti, Macrina Bakery and Caffe Umbria for contributing to the matching fund.

Pagliacci Pizza for Community Passageways
The past seven days have been a significant moment in our country’s history. For too long, many in our country have had blinders on and it is unacceptable. Inclusivity and diversity have long been hallmarks of Pagliacci. It is forever who we are. Two of our core values; respect and care for employees and do the right thing were formed based on the premise of inclusivity and acceptance. Yet, we recognize that we must do more. The work we have been doing on equity and inclusivity needs to continue at Pagliacci in a much bigger way.

Since 2018, we have partnered with the organization, Community Passageways, many of you have been involved. The work of Dominique Davis (founder and CEO), and the entire team at CP, is truly inspiring. Their dedicated efforts support the most vulnerable among us. Every day, they fight to save the lives of young adults, mostly African American, by replacing the school-to-prison pipeline with a school-to-life pathway. EVERY DAY. This work is done by the most caring, strong and compassionate group of individuals.

These are just a few of the reasons why we are doubling down on our support for Community Passageways. In addition to the mentoring, the jobs, the pizza and the financial support we have been providing, today, we are writing a check to CP for an additional $10,000 and sponsoring a matching fund. For any contribution to CP, Pagliacci will match up to an additional $10,000. If you, your co-workers or your friends contribute, Pagliacci will match it. If we come together, we will raise $30,000.

We: • Create alternatives to the carceral system through rebuilding our communities. • Serve primarily Black and brown youth and young adults in King County by connecting them to Ambassadors with shared life experience. • Believe criminalization and ostracization are ineffective deterrents to unproductive behaviors; and the carceral system further harms people who have already been negatively impacted by trauma.
