Community Chest of Port Washington

So many people are asking how they can help their Port Washington neighbors most in need.  Contributions to the Port Washington  COVID-19 Community Response Fund will allow us to rapidly give out  flexible resources for food needs, housing costs and other expenses related to COVID-19. 

We are making COVID-19 emergency grants to existing community and faith-based organizations that have strong experience supporting local families, particularly those that are disproportionately affected by this global pandemic and its economic consequences, including our frail home-bound senior citizens.

100% of GoFundMe donations received by the Community Chest will be distributed to organizations helping Port Washington residents.  This GoFundMe campaign is a Certified Charity Campaign and donations to it are tax deductible.  Your receipt will be from FirstGiving (GoFundMe's charity partner).  The optional "tip" can be changed to "0".  GoFundMe is a free platform and uses the "tip" for costs.

The Community Chest of Port Washington  is a not-for-profit organization established in 1949 to raise funds for distribution to local charities dedicated to improving people's lives. Community Chest funds support these charities' programs in Port Washington, including services for children, seniors, families, and everyone in our community, exemplifying the spirit of The People of Port Helping the People of Port.

Give Port Washington Light & Love is hosting its first annual Lunar Lantern Celebration to raise money to help vulnerable Port Washington residents and support our local restaurants.

The money raised goes directly back into Port-- first to purchase gift cards from our local restaurants and then donated to local families in need.

To celebrate these holidays of Light and Love, Sunset Park (by the town dock) has been decorated with a festive red lantern display along the waterfront.
In Chinese culture, 2021 is the Year of the Ox. The ox is known for its diligence, dependability, strength, and determination, just like our Port Washington community!
You and your family can sponsor a lantern! Your tax-deductible donation will:

• Lend a helping hand to Port families and restaurants, which were hit hard by the pandemic.
• Show your support for cultural diversity by celebrating with Port Washington’s Asian community.
• Provide 400 families of four, who currently lean on food pantries and other community faith-based organizations (CFBOs) for provisions, with the means to purchase a high-quality restaurant meal.
• Give the gift of a fun dining experience in Port.

The Community Chest will distribute the gift cards to the CFBOs which will give the gift cards to the families in-need. Please give as generously as you can.
