Roof Project for Colchester Federated Church
A long standing pillar of Colchester is looking to the community it serves to assist with the expenses of maintaining its building. The Colchester Federated Church has stood on the town green for centuries and is on the Colchester Town Seal. The current building has served the Community since 1842 and shelters many events and activities for town and local communities. In addition to Worship, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Weddings, and Funerals the facilities are utilized by many community groups. Among others the church building hosts:
· Community Lunch Program that provides a home cooked meal to families and individuals in need
· Support groups meetings (AA and Al-Anon)
· Boy Scout Troop 72
· AAU Basketball
· Youth Soccer
· My Brother’s Keeper, a group that makes sleeping bags and provides toiletries to the homeless.
· Colchester Civic Orchestra Concerts
· Colchester's Yearly Founder’s Day Reception
The building, which has provided a safe place for so many great things to happen, now needs help. Roofs are well beyond their usable life and have been patched and patched again, but the leaks keep coming. The process of fixing chimneys, roofs and improving the facilities energy efficiency has begun. This is very big challenge but very necessary for the church and the town of Colchester.
A capitol campaign has been set up to address the replacement of the roof and associated necessary repairs. Solely funded by the members of the church the expense of this project is a daunting task. The church is reaching out to individuals, businesses, and the community in hopes that donations will be made to help ensure that the location will endure to provide the open access and support to the town, people, and community that it has dutifully served for decades.
Many Thanks,
The Members of Colchester Federated Church
