• Homelessness is at its highest rate in New York since the Great Depression
• There are over 70,000 homeless living in shelters as of January 2023, including 23,000 children (Edit: over 86,000 as of July 2023, including 28,540 kids)
• These numbers do not account for thousands more living outside of the shelter system
• Additionally, more than 114,000 school-kids experienced homelessness at some point last year
• The homeless, especially homeless women, are much more likely to experience sexual violence (the National Sexual Violence Resource Center found that 55.9% of homeless women had been raped and 72.2% had been physically assaulted)
• These vulnerable members of society deserve our help, no matter what their circumstances may be

• provides between 800-1,200 meals to the homeless 365 days a year
• prevents over 800 families a year from being evicted through their Eviction Prevention Program
• "helps 11,000 homeless individuals and families per year, connecting them to shelter, housing, public benefits, substance abuse treatment, mental health programs, domestic violence counseling, and job training.

On July 4th I ran 56 miles from the top of Bear Mountain in the Hudson River Valley all the way to New York City to raise money for Coalition For The Homeless, for the least fortunate among us.

Bond's friends have now joined the pledge! 

Our Son Bond (5) has been meditating since he was 18 months old. We’ve continued it as a daily habit and this year we’ve found the practice of meditation especially beneficial to him. He typically meditates for 5 minutes per day and some days he pushes himself to do 6 or 7 minutes. But he’s never done 20 minutes, just thinking about it I’m mind blown.  Each year at Christmas he receives gifts, he's fortunate. But he's learned other children aren't as fortunate and that mad him sad. And so, on December, 20th his goal is to meditate for 20 minutes to help raise money for the coalition for the homeless Holiday Toy Drive. His target is $2,000 ($100/Minute) to be raised so that other kids in NYC will be able have Toys at Christmas. On the morning of 12/20 he will be meditating live for what he hopes will be 20 minutes. If he raises $1,500 he will meditate for 15 minutes. A secret, he feels confident about 15 doing minutes, but knows the extra 5 minutes may go a long way. :)

Help Homeless Families Survive COVID-19

More than 60,000 New Yorkers use homeless shelters every night, which has doubled in the past 15 years and is more than 10 percent of the total population of the state of Wyoming. The homeless are among those at the highest risk of COVID-19 because many have serious underlying health conditions, lack access to quality healthcare, and have no way to self-quarantine.

Coalition for the Homeless is the nation’s oldest direct service and advocacy organization for the homeless. It administers 11 programs that provide shelter and food to help homeless men, women, and children survive immediate crises and put them on the path to long-term stability. The Coalition even pushes for policy changes to improve lives for these vulnerable New Yorkers. The Coalition is in dire need of additional financial support because it is unable to hold fundraising events but has increased its operations.

The team in the New York Office of InfraRed Capital Partners is raising funds to support this worthy cause as part of our business' global effort to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 on health and well-being. Following the successful conclusion of InfraRed’s Virtual Race to Sydney, we decided to continue supporting local charities because COVID-19 continues to ravage our communities.

Your donation will help provide more than 1,000 warm meals each night to homeless and hungry people on the streets of New York and help them find a safe place to sleep at night.

The Virtual Charity Race

InfraRed’s staff recently completed a virtual race against the clock to travel 16,983km from London to Sydney. All staff tracked their distance travelled during their daily exercise activity in the lockdown period. The route from London to Sydney represented the geographic diversity of our offices around the globe.

Through the generous donations from InfraRed and personal contributions from the Managing Partners, our staff, business partners and well-wishers we have already raised over £150,000 ($184,000). Thank you to all those who have donated.

Fundraising

We are supporting a number of charities who are alleviating the impact of COVID-19 on health and well-being, which aligns with InfraRed’s values, our ethos as a responsible investor, and our commitment to community engagement. The charities selected also reflects InfraRed’s global footprint by representing our six offices.

Our target is to raise at least £150,000 ($184,000) across UK and international charities. This will be supported by commitments from InfraRed and personal contributions from each of the InfraRed’s Managing Partners. Because InfraRed’s staff achieve the goal of travelling the distance from London to Sydney in 6 weeks or less,

1. InfraRed will contribute £34,000 ($42,000) to the international charities indicated below. About $20,000 of which will be allocated to the Coalition for the Homeless.

2. InfraRed's Managing Partners will contribute £66,000 which will be divided equally between Samaritans and Trussell Trust.

3. Our goal, however, is to raise much more than this with further commitments from InfraRed staff, friends, and well-wishers.
