Lisa Gibbs Smith is fundraising

Deliver music and hope to children in Honduras!
We are fundraising to send 20 youth and 8 adults from Clarendon United Methodist (CUMC) to the Honduras Independence Bilingual School (HIBS) in Quimistán, Honduras, from June 23 to June 29, 2019.
Since 2006, HIBS has been helping students from poor families achieve a life of independence by providing them with an opportunity to: learn English, develop essential leadership skills, receive adequate nutrition and psychological support, and so much more. As a result, these students will be empowered and equipped to alleviate the causes that perpetuate poverty in their country, and help them build their self esteem and confidence as children of God.

The youth of CUMC will be ministering through music. We will use songs, movement, rhythm and dance to teach English, spiritual truths, musical concepts, and most importantly, build community and have fun together! At the culmination of the week, the CUMC and HIBS students will present a public performance, giving them the opportunity to impact the broader community with their example of caring and hope. Director Lisa Gibbs-Smith recently returned from working with the students at HIBS and can testify to the fact that these students are eager to meet CUMC students and work together to learn and grow!
This trip will have a huge impact on the youth of CUMC. They will be drawn out of their comfort zones and have an opportunity to learn that the world is much larger and diverse than the context of their daily lives would have them believe. Students will have their comfortable perceptions of God and others challenged as they move beyond the walls of the church and put their faith into action.
The youth have been working really hard to raise money for our mission trip (you've probably heard about our epic bake sales!), but we need your support. Through our fundraising events to date we have raised half of the funds needed to make the trip a reality. We need you to join in and help us to reach our goal!
