City Kids 70.3 Fundraiser
As we seek to complete this physical feat for personal reasons, it just so happens that endurance events such as these are statistically more likely to attract donations for a cause than many other forms of fundraising. Thus we would like to ask you, our family and friends (and anyone else on the Internet willing to throw us a couple bucks!), to donate to a cause we care deeply about and will be spending time thinking and learning about while training: increasing access to the beautiful and vulnerable outdoors.
In our lives, outdoor spaces have provided both fulfillment and comfort. The opportunity to experience them has been a privilege for us, and we strongly believe that those who feel marginalized from, or lack the resources to experience our outdoor spaces should be given the opportunity to experience them in an inclusive manner. To further this goal, we are raising money for City Kids Wilderness project.
The City Kids Wilderness Project is a leadership program for DC youth. One of the unique aspects of City Kids Wilderness Project's program is a recurring summer camp in Jackson, WY (a place close to both of our hearts and one we hope to foster more diversity in). City Kids Wilderness Project takes kids who may not get the chance to experience the incredible spaces the Tetons have to offer, and gives them the chance to do so at a young age. Furthermore, City Kids promotes outdoor experiences throughout its curriculum, not just during the summer. Experiencing our great outdoor spaces at a young age can help foster a sense of belonging and a desire to return to the outdoors for the rest of one's life. City Kids plays an important role in expanding access for people otherwise left out of these breathtaking spaces while also promoting learning and development that has been proven to increase the chances of its students to graduate high school and also attend college.
