Fundraiser for Garry - rebuild after house fire
The Church At Prison, Inc. is a statewide (non-profit) prison ministry in VT providing churches, counseling and Bible Studies inside prisons with Pastors and trained volunteers (since 1992). We also work in aftercare, assisting released prisoners (clients) re-enter society. We also own a small non-profit construction company New Life Crew LLC that employs ex-prisoners to help them get back into the workforce, learn a trade and earn a livable wage.
Garry has been a client, New Life Crew LLC top worker (6yrs), a member of Catalyst Church, Jericho and a friend for many years. He lives off the grid on land he owns. As the Senior NLC LLC worker, Garry is a hard worker, skilled, loyal and is much praised for his carpentry handiwork. He is a jack of all trades with over 30 years experience. He is active in church and an excellent actor, helping with skits and presentations with illustrations of Biblical principles.
Garry came home Thursday night (March 11) to see smoke coming out of his trailer and when he opened the door flames jumped out at him and burned his hands. So he watched in horror as his trailer burned to the ground. It was too late to do anything. He was greeted by his younger dog, happy to see him, with a tennis ball in his mouth, and his cat, but tragically his older golden retriever did not make it out.
Garry lost everything, including his backhoe which was parked very close to his trailer. Unfortunately, he had no insurance, possibly because the small trailer was very old and modified, so not estimated to be worth much in the eyes of an insurance company.
The Church At Prison is raising funds to help Garry build a cabin instead of a trailer. The estimated cost will be $38,800 for foundation and materials.
New Life Crew LLC will be donating labor and some materials, and we have an offer of a fellow church member to help with the excavation.
Garry is currently camping on his land in a small shed with his dog and cat. Pastor Pete and others from church have donated some clothing so far.
Would you please help in this tragic situation? Any donation small or large would help, would be so appreciated and is desperately needed.
