Marathon for the Cville Free Clinic
We are a group of UVA School of Medicine M1s running the Richmond Marathon this coming Fall, and we wanted to make an impact and strengthen our ties to our community in the process. Having volunteered and interacted with the Charlottesville Free Clinic as part of our education this past year, it was clear that any donation to the Free Clinic would directly benefit so many members of the community that has welcomed us in as students.
The Free Clinic is an open door to health care, providing medical care, dental care, and prescriptions FREE for working uninsured people in our community. Every year, it serves more than 2,400 patients, including around 384 new patients, through more than 6,800 clinic visits. This work is done by 600+ volunteers who donate ~14,500 hours per year.
Patient Story: I Can’t Say Enough Good Things
Selena first came to the Charlottesville Free Clinic in 2017 when she lost her job and the employer sponsored healthcare that came with it. “A good friend introduced me to the Free Clinic when I lost my job a few years ago,” says Selena. “And while I resisted going to the clinic at first, I finally did . . . and I’m glad I did. If not for the doctors there, I wouldn’t have caught my cancer in its early stages. The staff and volunteers have always made me feel welcome when I visit. They have been a true source of medical and emotional support.”
