Catholic Near East Welfare Assoc Inc (CNEWA)

Thank you for supporting our Valentine's Day fundraiser for Ukraine relief. Funds raised will be directed to Ukraine relief through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA)

From the very first days of the war, CNEWA has rushed aid to its partners in Ukraine, with a focus on providing immediate necessities, including food, medicine and shelter. Primary partners include Caritas Ukraine, Ukrainian Catholic University and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

Since 2022, responding to human needs has become CNEWA’s priority in Ukraine, including emergency relief, health care, child care initiatives and care for the marginalized.

The impact of war on children is immeasurable. The number of children orphaned by this war continues to rise, as does the number of children who suffer from the trauma of occupation, displacement or being near the front. For this reason, child care initiatives, including education and the integration of refugee children, are top priority for CNEWA in its humanitarian response.

Government-run hospitals are overwhelmed from caring for wounded soldiers, and there is a growing need for alternative health care institutions to care for the displaced as well as local residents. Caritas Ukraine is developing a network of medical centers across Ukraine to fulfill the need for health care.

STRENGTHENING HEALTHCARE SERVICES AT MENDIDA MEDHANIALEM CATHOLIC CLINIC

Mendida Medhanialem Catholic Medium Clinic was founded by the Divine Providence Sisters’ Congregation in 1973, and plays a critical role in providing preventive and curative heath care services free of charge for the people of Mendida, in the Oromo Regional State, about 50 miles north of the capital. Since 2021, this region has seen a large influx of populations displaced by the war in Tigray. The area also is experiencing a major drought which has led to a sharp increase in rates of food insecurity.  LEARN MORE

The clinic serves approximately 200 patients per day and operates laboratory, pharmacy, health education, child nutrition support and other mother and children and OB-GYN services.

The vital work of this clinic is at risk. The global pandemic has caused more than 7,000 deaths, economic devastation and social crises throughout Ethiopia. The costs of medical supplies, drugs, food, equipment and essential commodities have risen dramatically.

CNEWA urgently seeks to raise $10,000 to fund this program. As donor attention now focuses on the crisis in Ukraine, the sisters unexpectedly lost a grant from a third-party donor.

The clinic currently receives no other sources of funding and is at risk of closing. Please join us to support the sisters and the patients they serve.

Your contribution will allow the dedicated staff of this clinic to continue their critical work saving lives.
