Cataract Volunteer Fire Department

The Cataract Volunteer Fire Department (Indiana) is continuing to build our dive team. We have 4 members (so far) dive certified, plus surface support members. We need to give our dive team the ability to communicate with each other and with the shore line tenders but we cannot afford the rest of the dive communications equipment needed. Most dives are limited to no visibility and this is a very dangerous situation without adequate communication and a rope/ comm cord connecting the diver to safety at the shore. We have had to borrow this equipment to do training but it is not available to us for responses. We felt the need was great to start this team with the Indiana DNR, the only divers close to us, often with a 1 hour plus response time to get divers set up for a rescue. Donations will be used to buy dive communication equipment including communications ropes, headsets, and mask transmitters. We cover Cataract Falls State Rec Area and part of the 1200 acre Cagles Mill (Cataract) Lake. Unfortunately in the last 2 years, several people have drown at the falls. We need to have faster access to these deep water areas. We will assist surrounding fire departments and IDNR on dive responses once our team is operational. Being a small, all volunteer, fire department with limited funding, having spent over $20,000 for training and gear so far, we need your help to go further.
