Why Donate?

Rescue the Underdog needs your help! RTU uses donations to pay for costly medical procedures and training. Some of our dogs come with broken bones and other debilitating injuries that have gone untreated, so they end up needing urgent medical help once they are in our care. Our dogs also require lots of training to become their best adoptable selves!

What is RTU?

Rescue the Underdog is a small, San Francisco-based, volunteer-run organization that saves dogs from being euthanized in high-kill shelters and takes in dogs that no other rescue organizations will take. We are part of the Center for Animal Rescue and Education in Solano (CARES), a 501(c)(3) organization. There is no greater joy than to see an underdog's transformation: from the time they are pulled from the shelter to when they are adopted by a loving family.

Ginger

Ginger is a sweet, 4-year-old chihuahua mix who needed hip surgery. Your donations helped cover the cost of her surgery, radiographs, medication, and general veterinary care during visits!

Help Ivan the Puppy Walk Normally!
Ivan is an incredibly sweet & strong 10 month old chihuahua puppy that is in desperate need of your help! He was rescued from a hoarder’s house in Modesto, CA together with 7 other dogs.

He was thankfully given a new lease on life and taken in by Rescue the Underdog (an organization that rescues at-risk dogs in the SF Bay Area in cooperation with CARES non-profit) and brought to stay in foster care together with another dog rescued from the same home.

He has a fractured left arm along with a dislocated elbow in the same arm making it impossible for him to put weight on his arm. He also has malalignment in his left back leg making it very challenging for him to walk with 3 serious injuries on one side of his body.

After a visit to a specialist doctor, we learned that these issues can be repaired but will require costly surgeries (the first of which has been completed). While he's recovering from the first surgery, he has ONE more to go!

Therefore, WE NEED YOUR HELP to raise the money as his medical care will cost approximately $5,400.

Despite all of the challenges Ivan has faced in his short life, he doesn’t let that stop him from playing with his foster brothers and sister and learning to trust humans again!

He is doing well in foster care and is looking forward to receiving his next surgery so he can regain the use of his left arm and left leg and finally start enjoying life the way every puppy deserves to.

Desperado Fundraiser for Rescue the Underdog
Sleeping quite contently beside me as I type is Walnut, a chi-terrier mix, who had no name when he came to me in 2016. Walnut was my very first foster (and foster fail) from Rescue the Under Dog. He escaped and ran away the same week I got him and was adopted and returned to me twice before I adopted him myself -- not only because he was so sweet, but because he was so naughty. I feared no one would take the time and patience he needed to heal the same way I would (not only the external wounds he showed up with, but the internal ones as well). I feared that for him, the same way I feared it for myself. So taking him in was a way of not only loving the bits of him that were troublesome, but also the bits of me that were too. Walnut is my friend and my protector and my mirror and my shadow. He is openly and unapologetically emotional, in the best and worst ways, and he has been a great life teacher about patience, empathy, and love. His transformation is priceless. But also (dreadedly) the two buzz words I hate most in Silicon Valley - repeatable and scalable - with time, love, and money.

Can you spare any or all of the above? It pays back enormously more than you put in. I promise.

Rescue the Underdog's Holiday Relief Fund
This is Maddox.

Rescue the Underdog is getting him on Saturday.

Maddox has been severely neglected and has been living outside in a carrier for years with no social contact outside when he is given food and water.

His hair is extremely matted and he sleeps in his own feces. Maddox is now 12 years old.

Maddox is just one of the many dogs Rescue the Underdog saves throughout the year and we are able to do so, thanks to donors like you.

Right now, our rescue is out of funds and we anticipate over $15,000 in veterinary expenses for Maddox and dogs like Maddox between now and the New Year.
