Project "EEG Clinic for Ethiopia"
CareEpilepsy USA is organized in 2017 to raise awareness and improve the social acceptability of people with epilepsy by promoting education, training, and access to healthcare services for underprivileged communities. We achieve our goal by partnering with national and international non-governmental organizations that identify and resolve critical epilepsy care demands and participate in efforts that stand to benefit from our intervention.
We currently collaborate with CareEpilepsy Ethiopia, which is dedicated to making a difference in people living with epilepsy in various communities in Ethiopia. For more information about our nonprofit organization, please visit www.careepilepsyusa.org
Project "EEG for Ethiopia" 2019 / 2020
You may remember that through your generous contribution, we purchased and donated a desperately needed electroencephalogram (EEG) machine for CareEpilepsy Ethiopia. This diagnostic equipment is vital to the accurate diagnosis and care of a person with epilepsy. Despite the unexpected delay due to national and international Covid-19 restrictive measures, the EEG machine is now set up. Nine nurses and general practitioners completed seven-day training on how to perform the test. Also, the first five patients have received a successful EEG service.
Project "EEG Clinic for Ethiopia" 2021
We are excited to move on to the second phase of our project. We want to expand our project to include a "diagnostic clinic" to accommodate a larger group of people who can access the service, including those in the rural area. CareEpilepsy Ethiopia partners with neurologists and EEG technicians both nationally and internationally for recommended guidelines, emphasizing feasibility and sustainability to make the project a success. The funds that will be raised this time will be used for this clinic's startup cost. These include
* The cost of the annual lease of a property to include a single room dedicated to carrying out the EEG test and storage space for storing equipment, supplies and maintaining files
* Cost of the adaption of the property to meet mandated government guidelines to provide the service.
* Compensation for physicians, EEG technicians and assistants
* A generator
* Computers
* Annual utility costs
* Equipment such as bed, table, chairs, and lighting.
The project will also extend to a selected rural area to perform its first week-long mobile pilot project where patients will receive an EEG service.
