Cardinal Care Packages, Inc.

My name is Ashley Eby, and I am the co-founder of Cardinal Care Packages, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that donates care packages to cancer patients in West Virginia.

The mission of our organization is to ensure that every West Virginian undergoing cancer treatment feels comforted and supported throughout their journey. When I was 15, my mother was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. Accompanying my mom to her treatments showed me how much joy a small act of kindness could bring her during such a painful and uncertain time. Following her passing, my father, my husband, and I were inspired to form an organization that spread joy to cancer patients in the state.

We recruited a board of directors composed of friends and colleagues who had also been impacted by cancer or supported a loved one through their journey, and we officially formed Cardinal Care Packages, Inc. in the summer of 2023. Thus far, we have donated over 500 packages to patients at 11 cancer centers across the state.

As our organization continues to grow, so does our need for financial support. Each care package contains a note of encouragement from elementary school students, unscented lip balm, unscented lotion, tissues, a mug, a water bottle, a notebook and pen, warm socks with anti-slip grips, sugar-free candies, and tea. We are looking to raise $7,000 to purchase 350 care packages for patients in need this year.
