CAMP HADLEY TRUST

Devastating Fire at Camp Hadley. Please help us rebuild and recover so we can continue supporting our local scouts.

On the afternoon of March 8, 2023, the building facilities at Camp Hadley in Marion, Massachusetts, were damaged by fire. Camp Hadley is located off County Rd. and fronts Mary’s Pond, in Marion. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, initial indications are that a neighbor’s brush burn got out of control and spread to the Camp Hadley property. In the fire, the Camp Hadley Trust lost its main cabin, which served as a weekly meeting place for scouts, bunkroom and kitchen, and its storage shed which housed Scouting equipment (such as: life jackets, oars, canoes, soap box derby cars, sled, and more).

One person was injured in the fire and transported by ambulance to a hospital. Camp Hadley Trust offers its sincere thoughts and prayers to the injured party.

Camp Hadley Trust offers deep gratitude to the Marion Fire Department for their fast and professional response, supplemented by mutual aid from Mattapoisett, Rochester and Wareham Fire Departments.

The Camp Hadley Trust is the Charter Organization for Marion Scouts (both Scout Troop 32 and Cub Scout pack 32).

History:

The "Camp Hadley Trust" was established on July 14, 1941 by Lovicy M. Delano who donated the land for the benefit and use of the organization now known as "Boy Scouts of Marion" (Troop 32), and their guests. The trust has been in existence for over 80 years under the direction of appointed trustees with the purpose of promoting Scoutcraft: the teaching of patriotism, courage, self-reliance, kindred virtues, by recognized methods, the development of character, the ability to do things for themselves and others, and training for good citizenship and physical fitness.

Lovicy M. Delano donated a second piece of property March 15, 1946 to Camp Hadley Trust. Etta Hix Allen, one time principal at Sippican School, donated a third adjacent piece of property to Camp Hadley Trust on September 6, 1968.

Camp Hadley Trust is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. Donations can be made to help maintain the camp for the benefit of Marion scouts.
