Help Families in Sao Vicente, Cabo Verde Rebuild Their Lives

Dear Friends. On August 11th, 2025, a devastating tropical storm Erin struck the island of Sao Vicente in Cabo Verde, many people died, including children, destroying homes and leaving hundreds of families with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

While the government, community organizers and individual families work on rebuilding roads, walls and roofs, many families are still left without the most basic household essentials — a bed to sleep on, a table to eat at, a stove to cook a warm meal, or even sheets to keep their children warm at night.

Our organization, Cabo Verdeans United Org, a secular nonprofit with more than 20 years of trusted experience building safe playgrounds for children across every island, is stepping forward once again. We know these communities, speak their language, we’ve walked their streets, and we have earned their trust. This time, we are joining hands with Irmãos Capuchinho de Cabo Verde—An order of the Franciscan Friars —to ensure every donation reaches those who need it most. Our task is simple: give them back the dignity, comfort, and tools they need to start over.

Once roads are cleared and safe passage is restored, with the funds raised here, we will deliver essential household goods directly into the hands of the families most impacted. We hope this will happen by end of this year if not sooner.

• Kitchenware and cookware

• Basic furniture

• Essential appliances

• Personal care items

Every dollar counts. $50 can buy a full set of bedding. $100 can provide a family with cookware and utensils. $250 can help furnish a kitchen so they can share a meal again.

Meet Eddie Esteves! He will be 72 years old in February, and he is challenging you to help him raise at least $5,000 by 03/15/2024, for Cabo Verdeans United Organization (CVU).

Eddie says, “pull-ups are difficult to do, just as fundraising is difficult to do. However, if we all join in, the task becomes much easier to accomplish”. His commitment, as a seventy-two-year-old man, is to do 500 pull-ups. We are asking you to support this very worthy cause.

Eddie says, “pull-ups are difficult to do, just as fundraising is difficult to do. However if we all join in, the task becomes much easier to accomplish”. His commitment, as a seventy-year-old man, is to do 1,000 pull-ups. Our ask is for 1,000 people to donate at least $.03 per pull-up (total of $30.00) to help us meet our goal.

Eddie recently joined CVU. We are a charitable organization dedicated to the children of the Cabo Verde Islands by assisting these children to grow strong through play and education.
