BUNS needs your help!
For 32 years Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter ( BUNS) has been caring for and
re-homing abandoned, neglected and stray rabbits in Santa Barbara County. BUNS is an all volunteer non profit 501c3 rabbit shelter. With Vet bills averaging 10K a month, rising costs of supplies and an overwhelming population, we need your help now more than ever. We have begun to use our reserves and have halted spays & neuters until additional funding can be secured. This means a longer stay at the shelter for rabbits and hinders our ability to take in animals in need. The shelter is now over capacity and 48 rabbits are waiting for spay/neuter surgery. Please help us continue this important work. Donations are tax deductible and will go directly to our medical fund.
More about us:
Our volunteers spend thousands of hours a year providing daily care at the shelter with boots on the ground from dawn to dusk, 7 days a week 365 days a year. We cover all medical and housing costs as well as provide daily exercise, fresh vegetables, hay and enrichment for the animals. All adoptable rabbits are spayed/neutered, microchipped and litter box trained. We rely solely on private donations, many made by our own volunteers.
This has been an extraordinary year with more rabbits coming into our shelter than ever before. Litters of baby rabbits and mothers have been left on our doorstep in the middle of the night, abandoned in parks, on local trails in sweltering heat and even in a box by the side of the road. We have saved lab rabbits, neglected rabbits, discarded 4 H projects and Easter bunnies no longer wanted. We have taken in rabbits whose tearful families could no longer care for them and rabbits of people who became homeless themselves.
This year we spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped hundreds of rabbits. We provided in home support for struggling families helping to keep pets at home. We found forever homes for 125 rabbits. We said hello to some of the softest, fluffiest, goofiest and odd eared rabbits we have ever met. We said goodbye to our beloved sanctuary Christmas buns who passed in their 13th year of life.
Please help us continue to provide much needed medical care for the rabbits in our shelter.
Thank You!
