We are a group of moms who are fundraising to support the work of nearly two dozen local and national groups to bail out Black mothers so they can spend the Mother’s Day with their families. We will support Black birth mothers, trans mothers, and other women who mother and are entangled in the criminal legal system.

During the pandemic, the Let My People Go campaign raised over $380,000 and helped Brooklyn Community Bail Fund to free 60 of our immigrant neighbors  from ICE detention centers.

We’re now raising money to meet the needs of the folks freed by the Let My People Go campaign and recently reunited with their families.

Please donate to help us cover basic necessities, including rent, food, and baby supplies. 

We’ve seen the violent impact human caging has on our friends, neighbors, families, loved ones, and communities. We know how this system works, how these forces of punishment interlock to keep us all disempowered. We cannot defeat it unless we are united in preventing anyone from being treated as disposable. All incarceration is family separation.

Black Lives Matter and #FreeThemAll are urgent imperatives. We know that immigration incarceration is deeply intertwined with “criminal” incarceration, as both are designed to uphold a white supremacist state. And we also know that as we dismantle the carceral system, we must also create new forms and institutions of care and support for all. 

As we fight to defund police, abolish ICE, and tear down the prison-industrial complex, we’re also working to provide material support to our most marginalized neighbors. It’s not enough to free people from detention, we must also support the post-release needs of those freed and provide material aid to support impacted families who were neglected before the COVID crisis and have been cut off from the state’s inadequate response to it.

Freedom, Ruthie Gilmore reminds us, is not just the absence of cages but the presence of care and support. Our campaign advances a global vision for collective liberation. This can only be achieved by lovingly, caringly redistributing resources and creating community safety independent of violent state institutions. Support for our immigrant neighbors after their release is just as important as the release itself. We refuse to abandon our friends to fend for themselves now. Let My People Go recognizes that ALL incarceration is family separation, and community care is family reunification.

We are mobilizing a network of parents, families, caregivers, and New York City neighbors to show up for each other to take on the responsibility of caring for each other and changing the political conditions. Join us.

Last Thursday, a 54-year-old father who has lived in Long Island for over 20 years was given the chance to reunite with his family. It’s been a long fight for Tony*—he’s been incarcerated for over 2 years as a result of New York’s previous laws which made it impossible for noncitizen New Yorkers to obtain drivers’ licenses. Despite Green Light laws legalizing licenses for all New Yorkers in 2019, Tony just won bond this week and is eager to return home to his family. Unfortunately, the judge set a $15,000 bond in exchange for his freedom.

In his absence, his spouse and two little girls (now 9 and 11) have been severely struggling. As Tony was the primary wage earner for the family, and his spouse has had to work more than full time to support their daughters. The girls and their mom were forced to move and have been living in one room and sharing a single bed. As a result of worrying about her father, Tony’s 9 year old daughter has developed psychological disorders including severe panic attacks. They have no resources to pay the bond, which is why we’re now seeking donations.

The Brooklyn Community Bail Fund has committed to contributing $10,000 of the bond and we need your help raising the remaining $5,000. Please donate what you can to support Tony’s dream to return home and be with his daughters.

El jueves pasado, un padre de 54 años quien ha vivido en Long Island durante más de 20 años tuvo la oportunidad de reunirse con su familia. Ha sido una pelea larga para Tony*: ha estado encarcelado durante más de 2 años como resultado de las leyes anteriores de Nueva York que hicieron imposible que los neoyorquinos no ciudadanos obtuvieran licencias de conducir. A pesar de las leyes de “Green Light” que legalizan las licencias para todos los neoyorquinos en 2019, Tony acaba de ganar una fianza esta semana y está ansioso por regresar a casa con su familia. Desafortunadamente, el juez estableció una fianza de $ 15,000 a cambio de su libertad.

En su ausencia, su esposa y dos niñas pequeñas (ahora de 9 y 11 años) han estado sufriendo. Como Tony era el principal asalariado de la familia, y su esposa ha tenido que trabajar más de tiempo completo para mantener a sus hijas. Las niñas y su madre se vieron obligadas a mudarse y han estado viviendo en una habitación y compartiendo una cama individual. I'm running the Brooklyn Half Marathon on Saturday and using this as an opportunity to raise money for the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund. Any donation will help make an impact. Our current cash bail system is unjust: For poor, mainly people of color, their reality  is "guilty, until proven innocent."
