Harry's 50km Ultra Marathon for BTF
The British Thyroid Foundation (BTF) is a charity dedicated to supporting those living with all thyroid disorders & conditions. They fund vital research to improve the treatments and outcomes for thyroid patients across the UK.
Back in March 2024, Cerys, my partner of 7 years, was diagnosed with (multifocal papillary) thyroid cancer. After finding a suspicious lump in her neck at a routine doctors appointment a month earlier, she was referred to radiology for an ultrasound. Unfortunately, the results of the ultrasound were inconclusive, and so investigations grew. By April 2024, she had undergone not only a biopsy, and a half thyroidectomy to confirm the findings of cancer, but then a total thyroidectomy (the total removal of the thyroid), which has lead to Cerys taking daily medication for the rest of her life.
Recovery from both surgeries was tough and in June 2024, she was given a radioactive iodine treatment to hopefully dispel the last of the cancerous cells.
18 months on, to this day, we are still on the journey to an all clear.
To raise funds for the British Thyroid Foundation, I will be completing the Humanity Direct Ultra Marathon in Amersham on March 7th. Please give what you can to this amazing charity, and hopefully I'll be able to cross the finish line with all my toenails intact!
