Tornado Devastates Therapy Farm
On May 29, 2019 Worthmore Equestrian Center, a family owned and operated business, sustained devastating damage during a storm that produced 90+ MPH winds, affecting the barn, paddocks, round pen, outdoor arena and completely demolished the indoor riding arena.
This damage affects the entire Worthmore Equestrian Center community and the 5,000 people that benefit from their services annually across Maryland's upper Eastern Shore. Worthmore Equestrian Center affiliate organizations, Bridges at Worthmore and KART (Kent Association of Riding Therapy), provide Equine assisted activities including therapies and adaptive riding for Veterans, at-risk youth, children of incarcerated families, psychotherapy sessions following the EAGALA model and athletic programming such as Special Olympics. KART provides rides for special education students for six schools in Kent County, rides for adults & children with varying disabilities at Easterseals Camp Fairlee.
The damage caused, specifically to the indoor riding arena and loss of it's ramp and lift, affects the ability to provide the majority of our community services. We have been emotionally shaken by this event and are now trying our best to move forward. We are reaching out to our community now for any and all support in any capacity.
