BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF AC EMERGENCY FUND
The need is urgent, and the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City is calling on the greater community for immediate help. The organization’s fundraising goal is $100,000 which will be used to support staff, on-going community outreach, as well as new program development and operations.
“Over one-third (37%) of residents are living in poverty; roughly the same percentage of residents is under the age of 18. It is our job to support our next generation so they can rise above their parents, breaking the cycle of poverty and building a community that prides itself on good health, a thriving economy and a success story of self-sufficiency,” said Stephanie Koch, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City.
The Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City has been serving the community since 1970 and despite the seemingly insurmountable challenges, offers hope and opportunity for Atlantic City youth as a safe haven for enrichment afterschool and a beacon of hope for the families it serves. The Club serves approximately 1,300 children and teens annually and employs over 40 local residents.
The employees of Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City play multiple roles, from program managers and mentors, to tutor, teachers and even chefs, feeding those who might not know where their next meal will come from. These individuals are the core of the organization, working tirelessly to provide outstanding programs, educational enrichment and mentoring support each day.
However, as the Club follows the school system’s closures staff face daunting prospects for the months ahead. A skeleton staff is in place to keep the Club’s spirit alive, providing meals, engaging families and moving programming to virtual options.
