- Organised by Born Free USA united with Animal Protection InstituteTiny monkey Miri was found crying outside a wildlife rehabber's home in Louisiana. He weighs only five pounds and is roughly 18 months old – still just a baby! Like all babies, he should be with his mother. But tragically, he is not.
While we can’t know for sure what Miri’s life was before he was abandoned, he was found with a leash around his waist, which means he is most likely a victim of the primate pet trade. This cruel trade rips baby monkeys from their mothers and sells them for profit. Chances are, when his buyer no longer wanted him, Miri was carelessly discarded. The wildlife rehabber who he was dumped with couldn’t care for a baby monkey! Luckily, they called us.
Now safe at our sanctuary, Miri will have the chance to grow up around his own kind, learning from other vervet monkeys – something he never would have had as a pet. He is already making friends with Mikey, who also came to us as a youngster, and Charles, who gave Miri his VERY FIRST HUG. There is nothing better for a rescued monkey than a friend!
Being so young, Miri needs lots of attention, specialized care, enrichment, nutritious food, and opportunities to play! Please help us give him the best possible start in life and welcome him to his new home.
