PPE Fund COVID-19 Care for People w. Disabilities
While we all consider how to best support those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, please do not forget the Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) providing critical around-the-clock care to people with autism and other developmental disabilities.
During this crisis, Birch Family Services staff are among the frontline heroes putting themselves at risk to provide support for those who have tested positive for COVID-19. Every day, they protect others from the virus while easing the burden on an already strained hospital system.
This campaign will help cover the costs for those working on the frontlines of the pandemic. We have been securing the PPE needed, have adapted our facilities to assist those needing to isolate and have acknowledged our staff but we cannot battle COVID-19 alone. As this crisis escalates, your support will go a long way in protecting our residents and staff. Any donation will make a difference in acknowledging the needs of the people we support and our DSPs working tirelessly each day.
People with developmental disabilities, especially those living in congregate group home settings, are some of New York’s most vulnerable citizens. Many individuals have chronic health conditions and it is especially challenging for people with intellectual disabilities and those on the autism spectrum to adjust to this disruption to daily life and routine. Please help us to provide the support they need to survive and thrive through the pandemic.
