Biketopia

We are Biketopia, a community-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers that has been serving the East Bay since 2012. Our mission is to foster healthy communities and a sustainable environment through bike riding. We empower our patrons with bicycle education, provide low-cost repair services and affordable refurbished bikes, divert waste from landfills, and create a welcoming community space for cyclists to connect.

At the start of 2020, Biketopia was a thriving part of the East Bay community, relied upon by many who couldn’t afford to go elsewhere. Then the pandemic forced the shop to close before operating at greatly reduced capacity for over two years. Many of our volunteers moved away during this time, and our emergency funds were used to pay rent. A core volunteer staff kept Biketopia afloat by chipping in for rent, selling bike parts online, and doing bike repairs by appointment. Over the past year, Biketopia has been rebuilding. New volunteers have joined and patrons are once again walking through our doors.

We now find ourselves at a crossroads, and we need your help! Winter is a slow season for bike shops, and our revenue is lower than pre-pandemic levels as we're not yet operating at full capacity. With no remaining reserves, we need donor support to get us through these coming months.
