Michael Hodges, aged 58, is a long-time bicycle commuter in Norfolk, VA. On March 3, 2026, Michael was riding on Tidewater Drive to visit his mother. He was struck by an automobile, and the driver left the scene, leaving Michael in critical condition in the road. He was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury and placed on a ventilator. Though progress has been made--he opens his eyes, and he has been squeezing hands--Michael remains on a ventilator as of April 2. He was transported to a rehabiliation facility in Roanoke, VA, on April 1.
Michael's daughter, Mytika, needs our support. There are bills coming due, and she will now need to travel over 250 miles to visit him. In addition to her duties as mother to 3 children, she has taken on duties to care for Michael’s mother who has health challenges. Mytika is encouraged by her father's progress, and she knows that it is a long road ahead.
100% of funds collected will go directly to Mytika from Bike Norfolk, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Michael has been a valued employee of Paramount Sleep, a local family owned business, for 15 years. His job title: box spring upholsterer. The bicycle has always been his primary transportation to work. We at Bike Norfolk understand the joys and challenges of daily commuting. As of April 2, the Norfolk Police have not made an arrest of the hit-and-run driver. Anyone who has information about the incident, please call the Norfolk Police (number at this link) or to report anonymously, 1-800-LOCK-U-UP.
We will update this page when we have information to share about Michael's progress.
Thank you for supporting Michael and his family!
