BigHeavyWorld may have had to close the doors to our physical space, but we are not giving up on preserving Vermont Music--and with your help, we can make sure valuable historical resources find new life. Contributions to this fundraiser will directly impact our ability to store and transport records and artifacts as we work toward establishing partnerships with other local institutions that are dedicated to preserving the legacy of Vermont Music.
At BHW, we have been the stewards of many amazing pieces of Vermont's music history, including our Tiny Museum of Vermont Music History containing artifacts from major Vermont-based musicians and venues, our Vermont Music Archive with thousands of cassettes and CDs by Vermont artists, and of course our extensive holdings related to infamous venue 242 Main. BHW has also maintained records about our active involvement in the local music scene through The Radiator, our community-run radio station, where Vermonters from all walks of life have donated their time to running a variety of radio shows, and the weekly show Rocket Shop has highlighted music acts from across the state. Our holdings include artifacts and resources from dozens of other projects and initiatives by Vermonters and for Vermonters.
BigHeavyWorld Crew has been working on finding new homes for many of our collections for some time; and now with our imminent lease termination, this need has become dire. The process of finding new repositories that will honor the legacy of these materials and transfer holdings can take months, but unfortunately we only have until the end of December 2025 to vacate our current office space. As such, our plan to save as many resources as possible is to rent a storage unit so that we can keep the collection together and in a controlled environment as we move forward with finding new homes for these resources. Every $200 represents another month of rent for a storage unit, with a starting estimate of 3 months. Any additional funds will be used for materials such as moving boxes or further months of storage as necessary.
